PET/CT

Orhun Medical utilizes advanced PET-CT methods to diagnose cancer and metastases professionally. This examination combines the benefits of both PET and CT scans. The PET/CT technology can detect tumor foci that other methods such as ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, and CT may not detect.
This method is significant in differentiating malignant neoplasms from benign ones and accurately evaluating the scale of tumorous lesions. Precise information on how far malignant cells have spread is crucial for selecting treatment tactics. The PET-CT technique is performed to determine the degree of dissemination of tumor processes, detect metastases and primary foci of tumors, evaluate treatment efficacy, differentiate benign and malignant tumors, and plan further therapy tactics.
The diagnosis primarily utilizes 18-FDG in various diseases such as malignant bone tumors and melanoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, soft tissue sarcomas, thyroid, breast, cervical, thymus, testicle, lung, pancreas, ovarian, stomach, and intestinal cancers.
Advantages
- Possibility of detecting cancerous tumors at an asymptomatic stage;
- Safety of the method, absence of painful sensations;
- Performance on an outpatient level without invasive intervention;
- Obtaining complete information about the prevalence of the malignant process in the body.
Preparing for PET/CT Scans: A Professional Guide
PET/CT diagnostics are based on the analysis of cellular metabolism, which can be influenced by various external factors. To ensure that the doctor receives accurate data, preparation for the examination is required:
- Two days before the procedure, avoid alcohol and limit carbohydrate-rich foods (anything containing glucose, fructose, lactose, and complex carbohydrates: sweets, cereals, pastries, milk, sweet drinks).
- Stop eating at least 6 hours before your visit to the center. The scan is performed on an empty stomach.
- For two days before the PET/CT, avoid hypothermia and physical exertion – cold and intense physical activity can affect metabolism in body tissues.
- Bring warm, comfortable clothing without metal elements (zippers, buttons, etc.) and a change of shoes. Clothing should not be tight or restrictive.
- Bring previous research and examination data, and specialists’ conclusions about your condition to the examination.
- Important: patients with diabetes should consult an endocrinologist before undergoing PET/CT. High blood sugar levels can reduce the accuracy of PET/CT results. Additionally, inform the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, any allergies to medications, claustrophobia, or the inability to lie still for 30 minutes.
- When scheduling the examination, you will be given detailed instructions on how to prepare for positron emission tomography and a convenient date and time for your visit will be selected.
